Mk2 Golf GTI 16v recovered from the garage it resided in untouched for at least the last 10 years. Recommissioned the engine, it was tight after being stood. Lubricanted the bores and left over night and gently turned it over. Full service, plugs, check cam belt, drained of fuel and some fresh E5 in the tank. Needed a new fuel pump and some new fuel pipes, bad after a compression check it fired up. Warmed up, plugs back out and a second compression check shows a heathy looking and sounding engine. Now booked in for a full restoration at the next available slot. Even found a bit of time tonight to give the old S1 a bit of TLC. Very carful machine polish with a low cutting polish as the original paint is wearing really thin. Re wired the back lights using replacement plugs (first time they’ve all worked properly for a while) and a general clean up. 👍🏻

Very tidy Triumph GT6 in last week with gear selection issues following a new clutch being fitted by someone else. Interior stripped out and selector removed, gear stick found to be bent at the bottom probably due to the box maybe being dropped. New springs and bushes fitted, gear stick straightened then put back together with a new transmission tunnel, gaskets and fitting kit as the old on was badly fitted and leaked in heat and fumes in the cab. Prelude is finished and as been delivered back to the owner. Really is like getting into a new car! Had a lot of compliments while taking it for MOT and out fuelling and test driving it. Triumph TR6 came in on Saturday with head gasket trouble. So off with the head, 12 new valves and guides fitted with new double valve springs and seals. All cleaned up and refitted with a new head gasket, back out being enjoyed. #hdrestorations #classiccarrestoration #classiccars #triumpghtr6

The Honda Prelude is well under way now. Stripped down, engine out, parts off for powder coating. Full new set of brakes including discs, pad, calipers and flexi hoses. New clutch, timing belt kit and full service on the engine. All oils changed in engine, gear box, rear steering and brake fluid. Also a repair on the rear seat base where a mouse 🐭 had got in whilst in storage. Things have moved on with the Bedford TK project, the machanical work was all carried out first then on to stages of paint, chassis paint completed today. Now on to the build up. A nice little Bedford TK 750 in for the full works. Very clean but we inevitably found some tin worm had got in near the steps. Small job on this otherwise really tidy 1988 VW Scirocco Scala last week. Someone had jacked it up on its sills at some point and the corrosion had started under the kit. Cut out the offending areas and replaced with some nice new Zintec steel. When the parts are just not available, you have to make them! The water pump was missing on This 1923 Crossley 19.6 so one had to be designed and made as we weren’t even sure how it would have looked originally. This car is 100 years old at the end of December this year and hasn’t seen the light of day for over 40 years. Back to basics. Fresh paint deserves a fresh start.

Now the Jowett is nearly ready to leave us is it’s time to concentrate on the 1977 Corvette C3. All the machanical work and interior cleaned and colour changed, exhaust made and now to get the previous re sprays off back down to fibreglass and ready for a colour change.

The 1952 Jowett Javelin project is nearing completion just wipers and washer jets to go in and the freshly reupholstered interior to fit and it will be ready for the road, not that the weathers been fit lately.

Exhaust fabrication completed on the Corvette. Sounding good.

Exhaust fabrication kind of a day here at HD Restorations.Tacked up, mocked and ready to take apart and Tig weld. Will give this small block Chevy V8 the sound it should have. Get in touch if you need a custom Stainless exhaust making up for any application.

Collected this lovely E Type Jaguar V12 with or trailer for the customer as it was a non runner. Diagnosed some wiring issues and fully serviced the engine. The uprated fan system needed re wiring and new tyres were supplied and fitted. It’s had A Pinto fitted, 4 pot Hi-Spec front brakes up front, Cosworth 4wd rear disc brake conversion, new wheels and tyres, a far bit of body work/paint and lots of new bits to make it a nice looking, usable motor. Done some light repairs on this customers very clean Rover 75 this week. It had very slight signs of corrosion showing so he wanted to nip it in the bud before it got hold. VW Caddy in this week for a tidy up on the paint. Although this was a real tidy car and the final paint was a very good job, the prep for it was not so the paint was lifting in places and some rust has started to rear it ugly head again. As we all know the devil is in the detail and paint prep is 90% of a good long lasting finish. Had this really tidy XK8 it this week for recommissioning after being off the road for 10 years. The car was a non runner so we recovered it for the customer and set about checking it over. It had all the brakes striped, cleaned, painted and new discs and pads fitted. It’s had 4 new Michelin tyres fitted by Big Russ Tyres & Autocare. New fuel pump, full service on the engine and gearbox. Also a new headline material fitted as the old one was sagging badly. We have modified the exhaust slightly with bigger tail pipes and MOT tested it ready for use again. Tidy Toyota Hi Lux through the garage this week for a bit of body work. Had a bit of corrosion staring in the sill so any rust that was appearing has been removed, new panels fitted, primed and painted along with the tub just to tidy it up. This is now a really nice straight pick up 👌🏻.
